Enemy of the State by Vince Flynn, Kyle Mills

Enemy of the State: A Mitch Rapp Novel, Book 16. Disappointing. Scott Brick is a fine narrator but this audio series is tied to George Guidall. Mills is more into back story and fluff than Flynn and thus the book doesn't have the same pace and intensity Rapp books are known for.

The Western Star by Craig Johnson

Some of the best moments of the series like when Walt meets Grace Slick but the switching between past and present ruins the flow of the book. Enjoyable but this could have really been good.

War Shadows by Brian Andrews, Jeffrey Wilson

Tier One, Book 2 is not as good as the first but enjoyable.

Enjoyable, you can see how good Capote is.

Listened to this over the course of months, Simon Vance's voice brought me back, and then I finally got hooked. Would try Wingnall again...I think.

Nick Foley, Book 1 was pretty good. Lots of filler.

The Fix by David Baldacci

Good.

The Painted Veil by W. Somerset Maugham

Written in 1925 you can see why people still read Maugham today. Fine writing.

The Operator by Robert O'Neill

The Operator: Firing the Shots That Killed Osama Bin Laden and My Years as a SEAL Team Warrior by Robert O'Neill was very enjoyable. Something about the author didn't set right with me, but none the less he gave a very interesting account of modern SEAL life.

Golden Prey by John Sandford

Sandford could tell a good story in his sleep, this is good.

Change Agent by Daniel Suarez

OK, but disappointed because Suarezs' first books were outstanding.

Cuba Libre by Elmore Leonard

Good even for Leonard.

Charles Lenox Mysteries Series #1 was slow and good, would like to read #2.

The Kingmaker by Brian Haig

Sean Drummond Series, Book 3 was pretty good, definitely would read another. Joe Barrett a narrator I usually enjoy very much was just OK for this part.

Fun! Re-read in 2025.

This, the second in the Kit Fielding series, is vintage Francis. 30 years later this 1986 story holds it's own.

Too long. Too bad because this could have been excellent. Dewey Andreas is a formula that works but Coe's detailed information on maters not related towards driving the plot or even relevant characters slowed this book to a crawl.

An Obvious Fact by Craig Johnson

This series is consistently excellent, and An Obvious Fact is another example of that excellence.

Rebel Island by Rick Riordan

This appears to be the final book in the series and was the weakest but still an enjoyable listen.

Razor Girl by Carl Hiaasen

Re-read and enjoyed a lot November 2024.

What a treat! Hiaasen is back and as good as ever.

Rosenfelt is a hit machine, another fun (very) light read.

Short story describing the marriage of Mary and Sherlock, very enjoyable.

The Heist by Janet Evanovich, Lee Goldberg

Light fun, enjoyed it. PW FBI Special Agent Kate O’Hare is known for her fierce dedication and discipline on the job, chasing down the world’s most wanted criminals and putting them behind bars. Her boss thinks she is tenacious and ambitious; her friends think she is tough, stubborn, and maybe even a bit obsessed. And while Kate has made quite a name for herself for the past five years the only name she’s cared about is Nicolas Fox - an international crook she wants in more ways than one.

House Revenge by Mike Lawson

Lawson has really hit his stride with this light fun thriller. The characters, old and new, are interesting and likable. Joe Barrett's narration brings them to life. At just over 7 hours this novel keeps a nice pace without a lot of fluff. Kudos to Lawson for not forcing the novel into an 11 to 14 hour format like so many other contemporaries are doing. Real good entertainment.

Too much filler in the 3rd installment of the Culper Ring Series.

Absolute Power by David Baldacci

Baldacci's first book is quite good.

The Black Widow by Daniel Silva

Another solid installment in the Gabriel Allon series. The 16th installment manages to stay interesting and incorporates lots of characters from previous episodes.

Blackout by David Rosenfelt

OK. Hard not to compare to Rosenfelts' Andy Carpenter series but even so this was passable entertainment.

Clever but too silly.
